How do I deposit funds?
See the Account Services section for more information regarding depositing funds. «

When will my funds be available after a deposit?
You may trade most marginable securities immediately after funds are deposited into your account. However, these funds cannot be withdrawn or used to purchase non-marginable securities, initial public offering (IPO) stocks, or options during the first 10 business days. This holding period begins the day we deposit your funds, and does not apply to funds that are wired into your account.  «

When will my funds be available after I trade a security?
Within a cash account, your funds are available on settlement date. Within a margin account, your funds are available for withdrawal immediately after you have received notification or confirmation that you have actually sold the security. Courtesy fill notifications are delivered via fax, phone, or e-mail. Or you can check the "Review Orders" screen on the TD AMERITRADE Web site. You cannot, however, set up a buy order prior to receiving the confirmation of the sell order it would be contingent upon. The same would be true if you wanted to sell a security after buying it. You would have to wait until you actually receive the confirmation that you bought the security. «

Can I trade OTC bulletin boards, pink sheets, or penny stocks?
Over-the-counter bulletin board (OTCBB) securities can be bought and sold using our Web site. OTCBB orders may be placed in the same way orders for listed stocks or Nasdaq National Market System (NMS) securities are placed, however, trading rules for OTCBB securities differ significantly from trading in the Nasdaq NMS and listed securities market. Please review the TD AMERITRADE OTCBB Securities Trading Rules carefully prior to placing your trade. By participating in OTCBB trading you agree to the terms presented on our Web site.

  • OTCBB orders will only be executed during normal market hours.
  • Only limit orders to buy, and limit or market orders to sell will be accepted.
  • Stop and Stop Limit orders are not accepted on OTCBB securities.
  • Limit orders may be specified as All or None (AON), Day, or Good Till Canceled orders. No other types of orders will be accepted.
Important note regarding over-the-counter bulletin board securities quotes
Over-the-counter bulletin board security quotes are NOT automated and thus may not be updated as frequently as OTC NMS or exchange Listed securities. OTCBB are NOT part of the Nasdaq NMS. Because OTCBB quotations involve a manual process, the quote information for these securities cannot be guaranteed and may not be "real-time". Quote information, or even firm quotes, may NOT be available. Investors should be aware that frequent symbol changes, additions, and delistings occur in the OTCBB market. Please contact a TD AMERITRADE broker for the most current OTCBB quote information available.  «

What are cookies and why must I accept them on your site?
A cookie is a small piece of information (text file) that is sent to your browser along with an HTML page - when you access some Web sites. When a cookie arrives at your browser, it generally is saved on your hard drive or in your computer's memory. When you return to that site later, some stored information is sent back to the site's Web server, along with your request. A cookie is also a digital "ID tag." It is uniquely yours and can only be read by the server that gave it to you. It cannot read any other part of your files, nor can it be used to send viruses. TD AMERITRADE will use cookies on its secure trading site to: 1. Authenticate valid accounts and grant access to the secure trading site. 2. Store your preferences in a cookie so that we can recognize them and personalize the trading site for you. «

How will a cookie protect you?
Cookies are the simplest, most secure, and most widely accepted form of authentication. At TD AMERITRADE, security will not be compromised. Using a cookie helps ensure that only you have access to your account. Authentication information is valid only for a single session and changes each time you begin a new session. This is a temporary cookie and will expire at the end of each session. We will also send cookies that will store your Web site preferences, such as, which order form you would like to see open first. That way when you return to the order page, you don't have to wait for a second order form to load. We only require cookies on our secure site, so they will be transmitted using encryption. «

How will cookies enhance the TD AMERITRADE site?
By using cookies, our server will know your preferences, allowing us to offer you more personalization. You will be able to return to the site with the same settings you chose on your previous visit, reducing the need to reset your preferences. «

Privacy and cookies on the TD AMERITRADE site.

What if I turn cookies off?
You will not be able to log in to your account. «

Closing your browser will prevent this from occurring. If you have further concerns about this issue, you can disable the caching of secured pages to your computer or clear out your memory cache and temporary Internet files.  «
